Somehow, it was strange that only kids in Class 8 had different appearances while all the kids in other classes were not like that. But, I just assumed that ‘That’s because it’s a webtoon’. Class 8 is just a place where these kids gather. However, my opinion has been changed these days when more than half of the storyline is published. What the webtoon illustrates might not be kids' appearance, but the hurts of each one of the kids in their hearts. Since Dong-won has a hurtful family history, that makes him more mature than his peers. That’s why he’s expressed as a big head (which means someone is ‘mature’).

 

This webtoon is introduced as a daily comedy genre, but it’s not all about comedy. The artist simply hides what he wants to say in small events that make people smile because a careful approach is necessary to deal with painful family history, worries about a life path, and a feeling of love. Each kid in Class 8 has a different appearance and they stay together, overcoming their pain and growing up. And readers are consoled by their relationship.

 

Kids of distinct individualities in Class 8 make you laugh and then feel serious repeatedly and it leads readers to think through. In the beginning, the topic isn’t serious, but when each episode is over, the intention of the topic is clearly rooted in readers’ minds without being too deeply immersed in its heaviness. 

 

The artist of ‘New Normal : Class 8’ has an excellent ability to control the speed of comedy and messages. Nothing looks serious on the surface, but by the time when readers finish reading the webtoon and lock the smartphone screen, they want to read the webtoon again. That’s not only because the webtoon is ‘funny’.

 

As long as kids are in Class 8, they can focus on finding the 'real' self without others’ pointing the finger at them.
