[Webtoon Review] New Normal: Class 8 – a normal story of not normal people
Anyone would have an unusual point in the body, but these friends I’m going to introduce to you is even more unusual.
Let’s get into New Normal: Class 8, which deals with ordinary lives of absolutely not normal friends.
The webtoon New Normal: Class 8 is a byungmat gag Monday webtoon by Youngpaka.
The serialization has been from 2013 to now, and it have been catching eyes of the readers with its unique characters from its beginning.
The protagonist, whose head is enormous in terms of its size, transfers into Rainbow High School, as his head grew too big for the gate of his previous school. The story begins from here.
As I mentioned before, the protagonist has an enormous big head. But the reason why the title of this webtoon includes the word normal is the other students in the class.
As the class is a collection of friends who have each unusual feature, the male characters have unimaginably grotesque looks. On the other hand, the female characters have cute features, like animal ears or a leopard’s tail.
Dongwon Kam, who have been frustrated for his big head, become to feel better of himself as he meets many of those friends. As the play goes on, it shows the normal class 8.
In the class 8 of Rainbow High, a class motto made by the very normal students are ‘love yourself’. People in there, both teachers and students, from the viewpoint of the society, are all not normal.
Especially the protagonist who had a complex is staying with friends like him, and he’s not thinking of his complex. He socializes with his friends and has a crush on a girl, starting an ordinary life.
The place is the most not normal, but for the protagonist Dongwon Kam it’s the place only he can be normal.
As this work focuses on comic aspects, it doesn’t show scenes like they overcome the prejudice, but it’s still an excellent work in its own way as it already melted the prejudice by just firmly standing to illuminate the class 8 with their ordinary life, convincing the readers that such a life is normal.
