: After All, It's Romance
Cheese in the Trap is a webtoon that is firmly placed as one of the most reputable webtoons today and is also a title that created the neologism of 'roman- thriller'. The romances that could be commonly found in colleges and the sharper emotional conflicts have made the readers feel nervous and immersed at the same time. In the story that is centered around the main characters of cold-blooded Yoo Jung, a rather sensitive but sympathetic Hong Seol and Baek In-ho who gets embellished as a perfect human being, Yoo Jung is a character whose heartlessness was only emphasized. Yoo Jung constantly gets proven that he is a weirdo through his relationships with his dad, Baek In-ho and Baek In-ha and as his uniqueness further gets confirmed by his history with Hong Seol, he becomes the driving force in developing the new genre of 'roman-thriller' as the main character.
In that sense, the aspects of Yoo Jung that appeared in the recent episodes of were an opportunity for him to overturn all the previous assessments that he had ever received from the readers so far. The reason why Yoo Jung had attained the nickname of 'sociopath' was that he carried out emotional communications between people in an artificial manner and used such emotional elements to control other people. These characteristics rendered him into more 'weird' and 'scary' existence. Yoo Jung was also a person who had consistently received the evaluation that he was a weirdo based on such tendencies and even thought to himself that he was unlike everyone else.
The process of resolving the misconceptions regarding Yoo Jung was quite simple though. The misunderstanding that Yoo Jung is weird and different to normal people was held by Hong Seol, Baek In-ho, Baek In-ha, many people at the university, Yoo Jung himself and even by the readers. As Hong Seol gradually changed like Yoo Jung, he felt fear. Since Yoo Jung had seen Hong Seol getting satisfied and laughing after maneuvering other people or catching them off guard, he fell into an agony that if he is spoiling Hong Seol. The nature of Yoo Jung was his 'inhumanity'.In other words, he was never sympathetic towards others, so it was indeed very hard for average people to become like him. Yet, the nature of Hong Seol was "humanity". This was one of the reasons why she was stood separate from Yoo Jung and got frequently involved with Baek In-ho.
But if Yoo Jung's inhumanity was something that could be approached by Hong Seol for her to get synchronized, it's properties already lost certain power of being 'inhumane'.Yoo Jung was not special at all. He was indeed not different from others. Of course, though having a wealthy family, a lot of money and a handsome appearance could pretty much be 'special' to somebody, his inner properties were still the same with other people at least. By recognizing this, the misunderstandings that got accumulated from the very childhood of Yoo Jung started to get resolved.
In the mind of Yoo Jung who kept getting detested by his father for being a 'weird child', resided the thought believing that he is a weirdo himself along with the feeling that he had been victimized by his father. As his father continued to supervise Yoo Jung and perceive him as a strange child, he deemed that all the gossips which were passed onto his father by Baek In-ho and Baek In-ha siblings acted as the medium to emphasize his uniqueness to his father. The reason why Yoo Jung had a falling out with the siblings was undeniably that he believed himself to be a strange person. The very reason why the process of Hong Seol becoming like him seemed so fearful to him was also that Yoo Jung considered himself to be 'weird'.He couldn't have any decent friend because he separated himself from others, and his relationship with Hong Seol also couldn't go anywhere because he avoided sharing their inner feelings and other truths.
But after all, it was love. The fact that Hong Seol had changed like Yoo Jung was the evidence that Hong Seol had realized. She had indeed realized that Yoo Jung was not strange. Yoo Jung often fell apart. Whenever he saw Hong Seol got caught in the endless chains that he had woven previously and suffering, he started to break down from the deep inside his mind. Yoo Jung may have thought to himself that he would never fall apart, but in fact, he actually had chosen to 'avoid' any relevant matters as the countermeasure for his collapse. Even when he believed that Baek In-ho had accused him, or in every other situation, he avoided facing the matters and pushed his enemies into hell, forcing himself to consider that they weren't really influential on him. But, Hong Seol was different. Hong Seol had a greater influence than just being a friend. It was an emotion that even Yoo Jung couldn't understand.
Therefore, Yoo Jung was in love that he couldn't escape from. Though he may have wanted Hong Seol to run away from him and from getting tied, he could never leave her first. Fell in love, he was ordinary after all. He could no longer hide behind his carefully fabricated emotions of being inhumane which he thought were his innate properties. Hence, in episodes, such human aspects of Yoo Jung cracked out. The 'humanity' of Yoo Jung that no one including Baek In-ho, Baek In-ha, Yoo Jung himself and even the readers had ever seen before but that only Hong Seol could vaguely assume of finally had surfaced.
The destination of an extremely humane man trying to hide behind inhumanity was love. We can now respond to questions that have not been clearly answered before, at last.It's because they are the questions of emotions and the world of human which can be sometimes contradictory and irrational, but definitely understandable by everyone.
