Lee Dong-gun, the author of the webtoon 'A Bittersweet Life', is attracting a lot of attention as he presents his new webtoon, 'Yumi's Cells' which has been upgraded in terms of gaining the readers' sympathies.

'Yumi's Cells' is a webtoon that contains daily stories focusing on the main character 'Yumi', but it is worth noting that there is a particular setting in such simple stories that catch people's eyes. The given setting is that there is each cell that controls people's certain emotional changes and behaviors.

You might think that such setting makes 'Yumi's Cells' seem like the animation 'Inside Out'. However, if 'Inside Out' portrays the five emotions that control people's feelings in their mind's Headquarters, 'Yumi's Cells' goes further and introduces countless cells that play various roles depending on the situation. For example, in a hungry situation, the huge Hunger Cell emerges, and when Yumi unconsciously thinks of something naughty, the Naughty Cell comes out to put the mind's village on fire.

As various new cells appear in the right moments for every episode in such ways, the readers become more immersed in the webtoon by the artist's ingeniousness. The artist especially treats the main characters of the webtoon as game characters in addition to such settings by making the specific stats of the main character suddenly increase when placed in an emergency situation. Moreover, the cells are expressed in various ways according to the character's personality. After seeing such settings, all the different emotions and situations that people pass through in everyday life may be viewed from a new perspective.

The main character of the webtoon, Yumi, is a common office worker who can even be easily found around the readers. She endures hard days at work, builds relationships, gets to love someone, breaks up with him and embarks on a new love just like everybody else. In the process, Yumi shares various emotions, such as joy, sadness, and frustration, with the readers. As the readers would have experienced similar situations before in their life, it may feel like Yumi is a close friend to them who they had known for a long time.

The most important aspect of 'Yumi's Cells' is the love story of the protagonist Yumi. In the process of following it, the readers get vicariously satisfied while watching a nice, caring boyfriend who would only appear in comics, and when they break up, they feel sorry for them too along with the characters themselves. Just like consuming a movie or drama, readers may support the relationships between characters, deny them, or otherwise, become a fan of them.

Aside from the originality of the story and the artist, another charm of 'Yumi's cells' is it's illustrations. Of course, you may presume that the artist would be a girl by looking at the cute and lovely drawing style, and yet, he is a boy indeed. 

I was also shocked when I unexpectedly found out that he was a male artist after reading the webtoon for such a long time, believing that it's artist would definitely be a girl. Therefore, one could claim that it is a webtoon that includes all the elements that female readers would like, such as the delicate story and the cute drawing style that targets peoples' sensitivity.

 

Also, for men who complain that they can't understand women's mind, the webtoon would be a good guide to grasp women's psychology as a beginner.
