Smile Brush: Old Picture, Warm memory of back in time
The drawing style of old pictures is like delivering us a harmonious and warm atmosphere?
I feel like someone is quietly whispering in my ears
“Smile Brush” is a work which has been also published as a book.
Long time ago, when I was waiting for my friend at “Kyobo Bookstore”, I saw “Smile Brush: Old Pictures”
The book was composed of 37 photos with drawings and of eight parts of the story.
I remember there was a boom in publishing books based on heart-warming webtoons; I also have a few.
“Old Brush” was one of the books that I wanted to read occasionally. It could also be a good present for a friend.
As a cell phone becomes popular, we can easily take pictures compared to the past. Instead, the rate in which people print photographs has dropped that there are lots of pictures only stored in digital cameras and cell phones.
We even do not remember when we took those photos.
Thus, it has been a long time since I saw pictures from photo albums.
The author delivers some stories of a photograph with short messages and drawings.
I can cry and laugh and feel touched by looking at the author’s <Old Pictures>.
The author Waru has long hair even though he is a man. His father was a barber.
He has had long hair since his father, who cut his hair two weeks apart, passed away.
He didn’t know much about his hair because his father did cut it his own way. I was able to feel the absence of his father.
It was such a story touching my heart.
The webtoon Smile Brush portrayed stories that the author was not able to say it out loud: a story he was touched by seeing his dad’s guitar playing, a story of his grandmother’s heartfelt meals, a story of his first love at age 20, etc.
This is a webtoon with the author’s womanish delicate sensitivity and touching stories, which made me feel the power of pictures telling not fancy but simple stories and the power of the story to convey something.
