A Bittersweet Life is yet another webtoon with daily stories. Webtoons with intense stories are good, but webtoons with daily stories or short episodes are indeed easy to read. That's why I think I like such webtoons. A Bittersweet Life is likewise a slice of life webtoon. It offers not only empathy but comfort too.

When the readers look into the trivial stories inside the characters' life, they feel that all people live quite similarly and they are not the only ones who go through certain experiences as they get emphasized in the webtoon. A slice of life webtoon may lack in tension compared to action and fantasy webtoons, and the expectations for it's next episodes may also be reduced, however, I like the feeling that comes from portraying the daily stories calmly. I perceive them as my own or my friend's stories naturally.

  A Bittersweet Life is a lifetoon which illustrates the charming stories of couples and singles, and the delightful episodes of office workers and the unemployed with the cute drawing style and realistic contents. In particular, the old couple that appears in the webtoon is actually inspired from the artist Lee Dong-gun himself and his girlfriend whom he has been passionately dating for 7 years. As they are married now in reality, they have become each other's husband and wife, not just being a boyfriend and a girlfriend anymore.

I absolutely prefer the drawing style of A Bittersweet Life as I favor cute art. However, the main character Nani's love story is further exciting.

The material for the story earns the reader's sympathy 100 times more than any other regular webtoons, and it makes the readers smile at the corner of their mouth. As she receives a text saying 'what are you up to? lol' from a boy in the early stage of the relationship, she calls for her urgent solutions team. Seeing such scenes remind me of the days when my friends and I discussed, worried, cried and laughed about a single piece text that we got from the people who we had a crush on in our childhood.

  It is indeed interesting to discover why the office worker Nani wears makeup to work every day. I also liked the episodes between the old couple, Ji-sook and her boyfriend, which I mentioned earlier as they had a delicate story.

  There are rather sympathetic and interesting dialogues in the story.   First, the artist clarifies that saying 'I will put everything to the destiny' means 'Be as it may because I gave up' and it is usually announced a day before the exams. The artist further points out that if one responds 'I just want to browse generally' to a friend asking what they wish to buy while shopping, they mean 'there are many things I want to buy, but I have no money' and one would commonly mention it when the season is changing. 

Replying 'I am fine, you can have it because you get fat when you eat at late hours' to a friend who is inviting for a fried chicken and beer, actually is a meaningless exclamation that translates to 'order them quick' and a girl telling 'I plan to take a rest at home today because I have bad conditions' to a boy asking what she is doing on the weekends interprets to 'she is not going to meet him even if she doesn't have anything to do in the entire world' according to the artist. In such way, as the characters take turns to reveal their stories and confess their inner hearts the webtoon becomes undoubtedly fun and very much arouses the reader's empathy.

  As each character has their own personality, the stories of the characters naturally become more intriguing. In the episode of 'I Know My Sister', the readers again empathize with the sister who urgently calls his little brother to turn off the lights in her room, but then soon gets obsessed with pink headphones in the end. I guess all women are destined to love pink. I too sometimes buy things because of their pink color rather than the functions.

  Feel free to sympathize with the webtoon A Bittersweet Life as you read the sweet and familiar stories which I loved.
