There are many high school comics with high school girls, but I haven’t seen any other high school comics where high school girls are as real and suspicious as in this webtoon. No female high school characters try to look cute in this webtoon. All characters in this webtoon are real high schoolers hundred percent. Neat drawing style reminds of comics in 2000s, and this is the Wednesday webtoon on Lezhin Comics, <Girlfriends> by Mahozzang.

The protagonist, Young Huh is easy going and whimsical, but she has a short temper and is alarmingly slow-witted. She is a lustful high school freshman who desires handsome guys.

She went to co-ed in middle school too, but this high school is more special for her. Bitna Baek, one of the Chunggeon High School oppas she fell in love with at her first sight when she met them in her eighth grade, goes to this high school. On the first day of the school, she goes to the school with all the excitement, but the girls and boys are in separate buildings and eat lunches at different times, which means Young’s got zero chance of casually running into her handsome crush, Bitna. 

Even worse, Freshman girls are in the first floor while Junior guys are in the top floor. Young, who was expecting to see Bitna every day in the hallway, is very disappointed.

While our heartbroken protagonist, Young is lost in her thoughts, she accidently hits Hanna Choi with her hand who has been sitting behind her. Young realizes she fits the Bitna’s ideal girl type that Bitna posted on his SNS. Bitna’s ideal girl type is ‘gentle looking, long hair, about 155cm height, beautiful forehead, and two-years younger’, which is exactly Hanna.  

Hanna asks Young if she can come with her to help change her wobbly desk and chair. Young goes with Hanna expecting to see Bitna on the way, and she really does. Hanna runs into Bitna while carrying her chair on the hallway. Bitna offers her to help, but Hanna simply refuses. When she came back to the class, other classmates bombard Hanna with questions about Bitna. 

However, she isn’t the perfect angel as she looks...? Hanna calls those girls are annoying as hell for going crazy over a guy who aren’t even interested in them. Of course, she mentioned this only to Young, but she pretends being kind in front of the others. Young wonders which her actual personality is, 

The story progresses as circumstances unfold about Young, Hannah, and classmates around them. Being realistic, characters are interesting and appealing. Story develops fluently coming and going between serious and funny. You will find yourself laughing at B-movie type jokes only findable in Mahozzang’s comics. The second season is running now, so it’s highly recommended to hop on the train after finishing the first reason as soon as possible.
