Vampire, Different atmosphere. Untouchable
There is a girl who can only live by touching, and there is a guy who extremely hates to be touched.
The webtoon I would like to introduce today is <Untouchable>, the story of a guy and a girl who have completely opposite characteristics.
People touch each other for emotional comfort, forming intimacy, and affirming love for each other. However, the protagonist in this webtoon needs to touch others for survival. She is a vampire!
Vampires are actually over-used cliché, and they are usually depicted to be superior in their powers and looks than humans. Vampires in <Untouchable> are similar to other typical vampires in some aspects, but they are differences too.
Being attractive is similar to other typical vampires, but vampires in <Untouchable> takes use of their good-looking appearances and live with other humans as singers, singers, and models. Plus, they don’t suck blood.’ They take life energy from humans with an easy and effective way by touching them, which is why vampires in this webtoon are friendly and close to humans.
While walking on the street one day, the female vampire Sia Lee tastes the purest life energy from a human man. She tried to approach him to taste more from him, then she is mistaken as a pervert. She feels falsely accused, but she decides to go on her way. Surprisingly the same guy happens to live right next to her new house where she moved to the day before. What’s crazier is that she is not satisfied with other people’s energy after tasting energy of Jiho Shin, the guy living next door. After this, she calls him ‘chicken’ and tries to hunt for him, but Jiho fears to be touched having a severe mysophobia.
Mysophobia is a mental illness that can be cured if he is willing to get better. More and more readers are starting to cheer for their relationship as Sia is keep stubbornly going for Jiho who keeps refusing
Previous vampire genre was usually sexy fantasy story about bloodthirsty fight between broods, but soft and sexy romance with the main subject of ‘touch’ and girl protagonist being the aggressive side appeals to readers in this webtoon.
Overall chroma of this webtoon is toned down from bright red of original vampires, but it still keeps vampire colors using devices in the story including the ‘touch’. Occasional jokes in between character lines and titles of each episodes are good examples of this.
Even though we’ve seen vampire stories more than enough, this webtoon has more creative material and an interesting development of its story. A vampire story without blood sounds like ramen without noodle. However, as it filled the soup with another unique ingredient ‘touch’, I would like to recommend this webtoon, <Untouchable>.
