The Sound of Your Heart

It was the year 2006 when the cartoon began. It was when the FIFA World Cup was held in Germany (which I cannot clearly remember anymore) and the concept of 'Webtoons' was yet to be established. As I recall such times, I now find that I have been subscribing to this cartoon for a long period. In , the cartoonist 'Jo Seok' himself appears as the protagonist. Began as a typical diary cartoon in Line, was a playful, comedy cartoon that unraveled the stories happening in the day-to-day life of the cartoonist in an interesting manner.

However, now that the cartoon has gone over 950 episodes, there is a lot of humor that is far from reality. So, I believe it is ideal to think of the cartoon as 'a comedy cartoon' that is simply different from reality.

 

It just keeps getting fun!

From 2006 to 2015, is reaching it's ninth anniversary after passing eight years of running. It is truly surprising that there has never been a single hiatus and the cartoon has always been running steadily. Because of such fact, fans call him 'the public officer of Line', but, the cartoonist himself even uses such nickname as a material of comedy.

The cartoonist, who we thought was diligent, said in an interview "I am good at keeping promises, but I do not think I am hard-working". I consider it to be attractive for a cartoonist who we thought was just funny, to actually scrutinize about his cartoons in real life.

The character with a hexagonal face that was born from making fun of the cartoonist himself has changed a lot from the first episodes, but it still draws laughter from the readers. Perhaps, I think it is more appropriate to say that the cartoon got much more interesting than it's early stages. Although the term 'steadily funny' became natural for the cartoon in it's long run, if I was to leave a comment, I would like to label the cartoon as 'steadily getting funnier'. After passing 950 episodes, the cartoon's humor is getting more engaging day by day, making me to always wait for the next episode.

Diary Cartoons are NOT Webtoons??!

 

Despite that has secured many diehard fans, there still are people who criticize the cartoon by claiming that "diary cartoons cannot be Webtoons". Well, can diary cartoons really be classified as 'Webtoons'??

When I consider that cartoons are 'pictures that draw some kind of story in a simple, humorous manner', I believe is most close to the essence of 'a cartoon'. Let us acknowledge that Webtoons are the collective term for all cartoons that are running on websites in Korea.

Expensive and prestigious cuisines that involve complex recipes are not always 'delicious foods'. Must a cartoon have gorgeous illustrations and serious stories to hold artistic value? I think it's a matter for the readers to judge, but for me, is one of the best comedy cartoons ever made.
