The genre of this webtoon is Yuri. As once I introduced a Yuri work before, a Yuri tells a story of romance of girl*girl. Readers’ preference on works of the genre tends to split wide, and so do I. I don’t read a Yuri just by chance, unless it’s of my liking in particular. But as we can feel from the drawing style, the story set on school grounds with lively girls, so it won’t be a hard one to start with. 

A freshman of Bido Girl’s High School, Seo Gayoon. As she become a new high-schooler, she’s full of expectation to see somebody. She doesn’t expect many things to her ‘heroine’, even if she happens to meet her again. They were not close. She plainly wishes the girl smiles at her and strokes her hair. But the day goes by fast, against her wish. At that time when it was to end up a futile dream, she meets her in her way home alone.

It was Soha. But what is this? Waving her long hair and flowing tears from eyes, she speaks to Gayoon first. Startled Gayoon turns back and runs away like a fool. Wasn’t it her who was looking forward to meeting her? Then she runs into a gang of delinquents, Yurim’s gang. She’s been already bullied by them from when she was a middle-schooler. Just then the rain pours, making them to leave her. As she is sitting and sobbing alone at the place, like her fantasy, Soha comes and hugs her. Is it her dream?

There was a reason for Gayoon to long for Soha. Because it was Soha who saved Gayoon from the gang’s bullying. But Soha’s sparkle of that time seems now washed away. What happened in the meantime? She will remain as Gayoon’s Black Knight, though.

There was a room to improve here: the situations in the early stages don’t look consistent as if the causal relation will be explained later in the work. For example, when Gayoon straightforwardly cry out Soha’s name when she was about to be bullied by Yurim, Soha appears right away to help her as if she was waiting to be called her name. Every story needs a pinch of coincidence to be fun, but as the process was a bit unnatural, it may make the reader a bit hard to concentrate in the early stages.

As I read it, I recalled my own high school times. There were some with strong personalities, but no gangs or bullies, so it was quite peaceful. As the school was a girl’s high, boyish girls were quite popular there. Of course, it was not as love, but as friendship. But some girls with a big mouth called some of them queers, or something like that. Those who were called queers didn’t give a look at the rumors; ironically, wasn’t it they, who called them queers, to have a liking to queerness, to have such a fantasy, and to make such rumors?

If you have no prejudice to Yuri, the webtoon is good to be added to your reading list for your free time, at least for once. It’s particularly for those who are in a girl’s high or those have been there.
