What if a boy dresses up like a girl and then sneaks into school as a girl? 

Action which was considered exclusive to men and cuteness which was considered exclusive to female readers were met together. He is a high school girl!

 

Choi Gang-bae, a high school boy who is said to be the best in the nation at Wangji High School, where 90% of all students are troublemakers. He has been punished all the kids who bully his sister since he was young. He really loves her younger sister Gang-hee enough to kindly answer for his sister’s phone call even during the fighting. (In this part, of course, the opinions are divided into the one that the brother can’t do that and the other that younger sister can’t be so cute like that.)

 

 

In the story setting, Gang-bae wanted to become a tough guy to protect her sister. Gang-bae, who usually do gang fight with his best effort even though he is just 3rd grade of high school, is in trouble to be expelled from school, not suspension. And he sees that one student (La-hee) who leads the bullying poured the coke to Gang-hee at the hamburger restaurant he accidently stopped by, and he plans to punish La-hee and protect his sister. 

His sister Gang-hee is a non-violent student and very considerate enough not to express her circumstances at the school. And she doesn’t like her brother’s touch behavior. The idea of dressing up as a girl is quite extraordinary, but it was good idea in comic webtoon and it is naturally connected in story. At least Gang-bae is not revealed to be himself by Gang-hee. 

 

Gang-bae accidently sees his friends watching female BJs on the BJ broadcast site. But this BJ is not a girl, but boy. Gang-bae finds this BJ ‘Gominam’ and threatens him to make himself dress up as a girl. Then Gang-bae became very beautiful girl. The scene which Gang-bae accidentally touches the breast of La-hee at women’s high school, feeling good reminds us of a youth cartoon in 1990s. I think the scene which Gang-bae buys the cosmetics at the shop and practices to make up by watching internet videos is the part that can appeal female readers. This webtoon has unusual charms that attract both male and female readers. 

 

This webtoon has the form of bright comic cartoon, but the story developed also includes the inner darkness of our society. Unlike the general comic genre, the eyes on bullying are not very cheerful. Bullying that has been always issued and no one know when it will be ended… The issue of ‘Bullying’ that often appears as the theme of high-teen cartoon appears in movies and cartoons, in all categories. La-hee has the concept of bullying calming rather than just bullying we commonly think. So, Gang-hee is intensively bullied by her group. Gang-hee has school friends, but I don’t think they are also not safe from this bullying. We know better than anyone else that violence shouldn’t be lead to another violence. 

But a school that overlooks the existence of attackers and victims, teachers who don’t give help, onlookers who overlook such situations, society that points at the victims thinking they have a problem and attackers who get free only because of they are minors. The punch of Gang-bae, which are blown out loud and heavy in this ridiculous society with only this bullying problems feel very delightful. There are so many recognitions and systems that should be changed from teacher who had broken arm while disciplining juvenile delinquent to assembly members who bribes teachers with a bag of money. But we don’t even know where to start to solve it… In this society, this cartoon records this times and makes us think, laugh and feel comforted. We can get the comfort from the cartoon because the society can’t be changed… It is quite bitter to live in such interesting era. 

 

 

 

 

Big and small episodes that happen centered on male character. Common, but not ordinary social problems and fun school stories. We read youth comic because we want to remember the joyful youth. I’m looking forward to read the ending of this cartoon which is delight, but contains realistic darkness.
