What does it mean to be awarded as one among countless artists? It’s not only a field for opportunity, but also a field for talent. And here, three artists stand before us: all the way from Line University Manhwa Contest for the Strongest, where everybody exhibits their excellence to their own serialization of webtoons.
1. Athena Complex / Kaisar / Fantasy, Romance
Different from Athena the goddess we’re familiar with, this Athena in this newly illuminated story has a different side we didn’t know. After being turned down by her beloved, Athena changes herself in the form of a human. Her story is fascinating enough for being whole different from the goddess we know.
Clean and tidy drawing style is also good. The storytelling is charming enough to understand how it could achieve good result in the Contest. It shows much unexpected excellence for a debut work.
2. My Boo / Jeongseo / Romance, Ghost
It would be an obvious romance with a ghost, but the scenery in the story is all too fascinating. The slowly moving atmosphere in the relationship of the two who met by accident one day blends very well with the unique and lyrical feeling of the work, and it makes the readers to have sweet sympathy with them.
Its casually looking development gives subtle tension. The storytelling makes me think of TV drama as it makes me expect the next episode. I can feel nature of romance from its storytelling.
3. Zero Game / Zelbasen / Survival, Fantasy
Those who watched the Contest would know this webtoon. Fans of this webtoon were wholeheartedly delighted when this webtoon became the official Line Webtoon, because, with clean and tidy drawing and solid storytelling which could be compared to webtoon artists of ongoing serialization, this work couldn’t rank a high place in the Contest.
Unique directing and animation-like drawing gives the readers the tension only allowed for survival genre, and they also make the readers expect the next episode. Its hard debut was a prelude of a would-be masterwork webtoon.
