Cheese in the Trap is undisputedly one of the strongest among Thursday webtoons, and it’s also a webtoon coined a new term romanthriller. It’s a common romance which can be found in a college campus, but its sharp emotional confrontation made the readers feel suspense and be immersed at the same time. In the story around inhumane Yu Jung, sensitive and humane Hong Seol, and, to the contrary, Baek Inho who is wrapped as perfectly humane, Yu Jung’s character has been forced to be emphasize his inhumanity. He has been constantly proved that he’s a weird person, by his father, Baek Inho, and Baek Inha, and he was the character made a new genre romanthriller by proving himself as a weird character in the past story of Hong Seol.

Yu Jung, in the recent episode Youthful Days, reversed the evaluation he received so far. The reasons why Yu Jung earned his nickname sociopath were that he manages exchange of feelings between people in an artificial way and that he manipulates others with emotional things, and they made Yu Jung weirder and more terrifying person. Yu Jung also has been ceaselessly evaluated as a weird person, as well as he thought himself not like the others.

The process of solving the misunderstanding is simple. The misunderstanding is shared among Hong Seol, Baek Inho, Baek Inha, many people in the university, and even Yu Jung himself. As Hong Seol changes like Yu Jung, he feels horror. As she manipulates others or she laughs at others while she makes them suffer, Yu Jung questions himself if he’s spoiling her. The attribute of Yu Jung is inhumanity. In other words, he’s not humane and becoming like him is difficult for normal humans. But Hong Seol’s attribute is humanity. This was one of the reasons why she’s distinguished from Yu Jung and constantly entangled with Baek Inho.

However, if the inhumanity is what humane Hong Seol can imitate and make up, the attribute loses its unique power. Yu Jugn is not special. He’s not different from others. Of course, someone could say him special for being rich, being handsome, or from a high family, but at least his inner attribute is same. From here, the misunderstanding from his childhood is resolved.

 

In the mind of Yu Jung, who has been getting his father’s attitude that he’s a weirdo as well as he thinks him as a weirdo, there is a victim mentality against his father. As his father watches him and sees him as a weirdo, for him, the words Baek Inho and Baek Inha told his father were merely a medium emphasizing his weirdness to his father. The reason why they fell out was, because Yu Jung believes himself as a weirdo. Also, the reason he feels horror on the process Hong Seol turn into like him is because he believes he is weird. He couldn’t have a proper friend because he kept himself from others, and in the relationship with Hong Seol, he had to stay out from the point, not telling her his innermost feelings or the truth on him.

Eventually, however, it is love. The fact Hong Seol changed into like Yu Jung means Hong Seol realized this: Yu Jung is not an weirdo. Yu Jung’s heart collapses whenever Hong Seol triggers his trap and suffers, he collapses from his innermost side. Yu Jung may have believed he has a cold heart, but it’s only that he chose evasion as a countermeasure against his collapse. In every situation, even when he believed Baek Inho pressed a charge against him, he escapes the situation, pushing the opponent into the abyss, and he deludes himself that in fact the opponent didn’t mean much to him. Only Hong Seol was different. Hong Seol means much bigger than friends for him. It’s a feeling even Yu Jung himself cannot understand.

Eventually, it is love. Yu Jung, fell in love, cannot escape from it. It sticks to him, so he can’t leave Hong Seol, though he wants to be free from her. Yu Jung, fell in love, is eventually a common man. He can’t escape to his delicate sentiment, which he believes as his inhumanity. The episode, Youthful Days, explodes with his long-hidden human face: never known to anyone, including the readers, Yu Jung, and Baek Inho, only vaguely felt by Hong Seol.

Therefore, the end of a too humane man who tried to hide behind his inhumanity, is eventually love. Now we can understand the unsolved questions. Because these are, the world of feelings and the humane world which are to be understood even if they are somewhat contradictory or illogical.
