Most of works that deal with lookism borrow the story of Cinderella. That means that it is a story that a very ugly or dowdy character is recognized or loved by handsome characters with its own efforts or talents. 

Authors said that even ugly people can be recognized through this story, but it doesn’t look good. So I want to say that they should not try to deceive by a transparent guile. 

Why should ugly people be recognized by handsome people? 

Sarcastic for lookism, structure in which people only want to be recognized by handsome people within that frame is not helpful in the criticism. 

The problem is lookism itself. 

  

People’s eyes

 

Movies, novels and cartoons all have something in common which readers are attracted to the cuts and descriptions. 

Readers have no choice but to see only limited descriptions and their interpretation would be different even for the same contents depending on where the producers focus. 

Among these, [Mask Girl] focuses on the eyes of people. Kim Mo-mi, a main character, wears the mask and receives the star balloons in Africa TV under the name of Mask Girl by using her superior body figure. And people who pass the street look at the body figure of Kim Mo-mi and think she is great. 

But such eyes change when they see the face of Kim Mo-mi. 

That means that there is a gap between the eyes to see the body figure and the face. 

As the eyes to see the body figure and swallow their saliva turn into the hatred against the face, the social criticism of [Mask Girl] naturally takes place. 

 

There is no beautification. Contradiction.

But this work doesn’t just protect Kim Mo-mi. Since the core theme of this cartoon is lookism, characters never escape from the obsession with the appearance. 

Kim Mo-mi, a main character, loves her boss only because he is handsome even though she knows his moral flaws and makes profits by using her body figure in Africa TV. 

Kim Mo-mi, who is a victim of lookism, also fails to escape from lookism. 

This cartoon points out the hypocrisy and contradiction of these characters. The boss who pretended to be moral actually was the one who did affair, and a friend who said that she never care about the appearance excessively care about the eyes of people. 

One character who was timid and has no confidence in the appearance is a fan of Kim Mo-mi, but also denounces Kim Mo-mi as prostitute. 

This cartoon stresses the fact that these characters are all the same people to readers. 

  

Very simulating

  

But I think the story developed in a way that is too stimulating. 

The story developed very naturally from the murder to criminal disposal of a dead body. 

I think it is quite sad that separate stimulating from the emphasis on the theme has interfered with the immersion of the cartoon. 

 

 This story criticized the contradiction of people who say that they don’t care about the lookism. 

But, personally it is sad that the second half of the story was too stimulating.
