[Webtoon Review] Thought that it would be a light webtoon!
Thanks to the webtoon, 2013 was a memorable year. There was a lot of talk and trouble, but there was a college comic book series that produced outstanding works and outstanding newcomers. Not only was the process interesting, but it was an official series of works from the rank and file to the quarterfinals. Most of the writers are active in the field. And among them, there was a work that led fans from the time of the Greatest Jajeon: Dungulcha!, armed with a solid picture and charming characters.
The basic story of Dongguulcha! is like this.
Blue Dragon, the masterpieces, white tiger, and Hyunmoo.
the discipline of four martial arts boys born with the gift of envoys
(Excerpts from Introduction to Naver Webtoon)
In fact, the stories dealing with the four sides are overflowing, and the stories of the martial arts boys are overflowing. A story that combines the two? If you look it up, it's not that bad. So what did Dongguullecha add to this and how did it differentiate itself from the existing works by talking about it?
The universe is divided into the realm of heaven, where the gods live, the world of all things/ and the world of human beings
Long ago, there were no walls of the sky and the earth,/ so the inhabitants of the heavenly kingdom often did damage the earth.
To prevent this, new ships gathered and held a countermeasure meeting.
"Why don't we create a link between the sky and the ground and pick four of them fresh?"
(But the fresh are against it.)
So, the fresh ones are famous for chewing a small knife, and they make a martial art or a magic rain with a white tiger spirit.
Give it to four people.
"I will promise a rich film to a family that has this luxury."
"In the House of Damans, one in each generation, training the rank of rank-and-file heirs, who are born with the vouchers of envoys."
"When you grow up enough to have the power of the spirit in your body."
"Send it to heaven to act as an envoy."
This is a brief worldview in the first episode. The universe and the fresh, the heavenly kingdom and the Divine Spirit......the characters that appear after laying down a worldview to the readers. Although character making, which is simpler and cleaner than the background, may seem meaningless, it is a composition that contains only the necessary details, except for the old-fashioned ones such as a solid body and wrinkles. (I think it is a matter of taste that is better than the Supreme Court.) As the movie has been pushed forward with character, the design and behavior of each character are all unique. There are many characters along with the main characters in the four-member act, but none of them are unique or unnecessary.
Is it a mere coincidence that the more famous works with exceptional quality, the more frequent the writers are? Why does it take a long time to get back to the film even if you complete your first film with a medium length of time? Dongguullecha! It was also one of the short mid-term and ended up in a long-term break. This phenomenon does not occur only on a particular platform, nor does it occur only on writers of a particular age.
Dongguullecha! started a series on Dec. 2, 2013 and began a long-term shutdown in December 2015. After three years, the series began in November 2018, but the series has also been shut down again due to a growing controversy over the number of cuts and stories. It is often seen that writers don't value their work or lack professional consciousness, but the problem is that it is too often to dismiss it as an individual problem. Don't you need long-term quality of work and protection for writers, not just for pay? I think the total amount of work focused on the individual writer is too much.
Dongguullecha! is a seasonal production that divides the seasons according to the season of the crop. Under the pleasant daily routine, the ended spring, leaving questions about freshness and sagacity, and then summer and autumn passed without much different marks. The mood is definitely changing, but at one point it's going too fast. There's the main characters' stance on dealing with the Sasin River, there's their families, there's their predecessors, there's monsters, there's a lot of them coming out....I believe that the authors of the book are making rapid adjustments in turn, but I can't help but feel that they are moving faster than the beginning. Still, it is because of the change in Dongguullecha that the author does not think that he has no affection for the work, as some additions suggest. It was certainly a clever choice to lay male characters that might be eaten in a female-oriented way and put a regular cleanser around them, but most of what was then called a smiley smile, or misogyny. After his return to the drawing board, the author has arranged these points in his own way, which is a difficult move to simply work without affection.
The fixed fate, the attempt to change him, the definition of a colliding individual's life and group in it, etc.It is a work that clearly shows what it wants to say and where it wants to go, but somehow it feels sad to wait for it. Dongguullecha!
