Matchstick 20- The world best terrorist and storyteller
Let me be honest from the beginning. I didn’t understand tricks at all. While complicated tricks were all over the place with matchsticks, it was too much for me to catch up. If I took a thorough look like preparing an exam, I would have understood. But, I didn’t want to study while enjoying a cartoon. I think my understanding might not be so good and I might be lazy, too.
I’m talking about a webtoon called Matchstick 20. Three characters with wacky mental appear in this cartoon. They can be called people who have horrible mental. They are a terrorist, a storyteller, and a commissioner.
The World’s Best Terrorist. It is an official name. She’s a really competent terrorist. Terrorist boldly takes a police station building over. By herself. In fact, this high-school girl terrorist doesn’t seem to have any political and philosophical orientation. Violence itself may become her purpose. It’s somewhat different from a dictionary definition of a terrorist. However, she’s called a terrorist in the cartoon and we don’t use a terrorist without strictly defining the word, so why not just call her, terrorist?
After infiltrating into the building, she commits indiscriminate slaughter, then holds hostages of all twenty survived people by herself. And, she negotiates with the government and makes stupid demands. But, the governmental authority isn’t significant in this kind of creative work so I’ll skip this part. An ace who equals Rambo holds an automated gun and keeps unarmed hostages so I think there won’t be any other measure to be suggested. She’s faithful for the pure purpose of violence and incredibly competent as well. So, Russian style maneuvers feel like the only method preferably for potential victims of the future. (But, if the demand is to replace all the glass at the XX Police Agency building to fake sugar, wouldn't it have been considered once?)
Now the World ’s Best Terrorist makes a bold suggestion to hostages. Ten of the twenty hostages will be released safely. The reason for this is also unusual: she has only 15 bullets left. She did spread herself too thin before getting hostages. Even if she kills each one of fifteen people with each bullet, there will be still five people left to kill. Since she’s physically a high school student, she’s at risk getting caught. She’s far from a category of a physically ordinary high school student in terms while she dauntlessly carries an automated gun and acts out. But, she insists so, so we’d better buy it.
It wasn't a bad demand in the position of hostages, and she fairly selects people who will stay and who will get out under the lead of Commissioner. The Commissioner shows up at this time. As his name explains, he’s a chief officer of the XX Police Agency. In the beginning, he’s very calm like a cop and good at commanding the public who are prone to panic. In the process, instead of insisting on authority and sparking people’s opposition, he persuades people with gentle words. He seems like an excellent example of a police officer, however, the reality is, of course, that he’s the other way round. Following the fair draw, hostages mingle feelings of joy and sorrow. And the World’s Best Storyteller shows up. When a terror incurs, what he does is to faint in the bathroom so that he’s late.
The next comes up with splendid tricks and brain battles. The World’s Best Storyteller appears that he’ll tell a story just like his name. But, unlikely his appearance, what he’s babbling about is a trick before the draw. In fact, before the question of intelligence, the Storyteller has little to know in his position, so it seems to be impractical reasoning in reality. It’s just a cartoon in all aspects. Actually, there was no need for the Terrorist to appear. For example, if half of the people remaining in the lifeboat could get on from the sinking boat, the cartoon would have not been so changed. Now, it’s the time for readers to see, enjoy and evaluate the mystery of the World's Best Storyteller.
