They have gathered at ‘Cheap Chunrima Mart’, the official place of exile of Dema Group.

There are many dramas based on popular webtoons. For example, ‘Love Alarm’ on Netflix, ‘What’s wrong with Secretary Kim’, JTBC’s Wednesday and Thursday drama; ‘My ID is Gangnam Beauty’, JTBC’s Friday and Saturday drama, ‘Clean with passion for Now’, a JTBC Drama’, and ‘Taleoffiary’, a tvN drama. Since dramas are made based on popular webtoons, people who read those webtoons show great interest for the dramas.
On September 20, 2019, tvN aired a new Friday drama. This drama is also based on a webtoon, and the name is ‘Cheap Chunrima Mart.’ It is a comedy drama about an elite manager who wants to revive a low quality peaceful mart, Chunrima Mart, which has been exiled by the DM group and is not a competition to traditional markets, and a human bulldozer boss who wants to completely ruin the mart. The webtoon <Cheap Chunrima Mart> is also getting lots of attention. What is happening at ‘Chunrima Mart’?
The main setting of <Cheap Chunrima Mart> is ‘Chunrima Mart’, a discount chain mart owned by Dema Group. The accounting files of ‘Chunrima Mart’ shows a massive number of deficits, and the financial records are a mess. Even though it is a chain mart, there is only one main store, and employees do not understand why the company is keeping the place. For the employees of Dema Group, ‘Chunrima Mart’ is like a place of exile. If you are assigned to ‘Chunrima Mart’, it means that you should just resign. The story of <Cheap Chunrima Mart> starts in the boardroom of ‘Dema Group’. The chairman of ‘Dema Group’, ‘Kim Dae Ma’, believes that in a society where business environments keep changing day by day, future growth engine of the company is energy, so he decides to invest in a new area, ‘a car wax that grows hair on cars’. ‘Kim Dae Ma’ says that the main target of the car wax are young female drivers who like to decorate their cars, men in their 20-30s, and young woman owner drivers who like cars. He talks about his plan to invest 120 billion Korean won for two years and commercialize the product within 3 years. The executives in the boardroom listening to this plan, ‘Even though people in the secretary room said that the chairman might have dementia, how could dementia be this bad?... Our group is over now… How should we deal with this matter…’.
‘Kim Dae Ma’ asked, “What is it? Why isn’t anybody saying something? Do you not like my idea?” A true influential executive of Dema Group named ‘Kwon Young-gu’ answered, “A great idea from Mr. Chairman. This is the best strategic product that will increase our group’s market share” and flattered the chairman. Just then, ‘Jung Bok-dong’, a person considered as the chairman’s first right hand man, tells the chairman with alarm, “Mr. Chairman, please get a hold of yourself. The company will fail if you make something like this! Who in the world would want to ride a car that has hair?” Hearing this opinion, ‘Kim Dae Ma’ thanks ‘Jung Bok-dong’ who always gave him advice.
However, ‘Kraken Group’, a competitor of Dema group, announces a car wax that grows hair, and the reaction of the market is so great that Kraken’s stock price soar, and pre-orders are made in 16 countries. In addition, men in their 20-30s and young woman owner drivers show great interest in the product and the popularity of the product is absolutely tremendous. Therefore, ‘Jung Bok-dong’ gets exiled to Dema Group’s place of exile, ‘Chunrima Mart’.
The manager of ‘Chunrima Mart’ is ‘Moon Suk-gu’ and he is a model FM student. He spent his school days studying everything that was given to him, entered a good university in Seoul, and had studied enough to write as much others in his resume. After graduating from university, he wrote his resume just like others for years, but finding a job was not that easy. He ended up getting a call from ‘Dema Distrbution’. ‘Moon Suk-gu’ wondered if a big company like ‘Dema Group’ had a distribution sector but decided to take the job since it was ‘Dema Group’. The place he landed was ‘Chunrima Mart’.
‘Chunrima Mart’, Moon Suk-gu’s workplace, was not a mart where products were sold. The place was gutlessly on business even though every customer went to the mart at the opposite side of the road, and a significant amount of sales and commodities continued to evaporate. After working at the mart for about a month, ‘Moon Suk-gu’ decides to hand in his resignation to the company, which seemed to have a dead vision and was likely to rip him. However, three full-time employees who came before him resigns and Moon Suk-gu ends up becoming the ‘manager’ of ‘Chunrima Mart’.
One day, ‘Moon Suk-gu’ gets a call from the head office. The phone call alerts him that the chairman has assigned ‘Jung Bok-dong’ executive to work at ‘Chunrima Mart’. ‘Moon Suk-gu’ gets happy that the head office was finally showing interest in ‘Chunrima mart’ and gets excited thinking of leading ‘Chunrima Mart’ with ‘Jung Bok-dong’, an executive director. That’s how ‘Jung Bok-dong’ and ‘Moon Suk-gu’ meet…
