Teenage Romance, approaching each other slowly and carefully
It was good to have a friend who lived in the same neighborhood when I was in school or in an academy. This is because I don't have to go to school alone. When I think back to my school days, it took me about 30 minutes to walk from my house to school, and I even shared a very deep story with my friend who went back and forth to school during that time. I have never been in the same class in three years, but I remember having more conversations than my classmates. If this schoolmate is not just a friend, but an opposite sex, how excited will that time be? The webtoon with this thrill. This is <30 Minutes’ Walk>.
The main characters of The Walking 30 Minutes are ‘Wee Sung-eun’ and ‘Ji Gu-bong’. As you can see from the names of the two main characters, the names of the main characters are from ‘Satellite’ and ‘Earth’. The moon is the only satellite orbiting the Earth. I remember learning that the Earth's ecosystem is maintained because there is a moon that is always circling the Earth, and that life can live on the Earth. So I thought that the author took the motif from the fact that they were inseparable and named the main character of ‘30 Minutes’ Walk’.
To the female character of <30 Minutes’ Walk>, We Sung-eun, the moon is up alone, but it is like a friend who stays with her all the time while she comes home from academy. To her, a man appears in the daily routine of going home with the moon. The friend who came into view between the fingers of We Sung-eun while looking at the moon. He is ‘Ji Gu-bong’. So the two become friends.
Wee Sung-eun grew up with busy parents. So, the wish of Wee Sung-eun was to always have more time to spend with her mother. But she keeps it secret because she thought her mother will be disappointed. To Wee Sung-eun, who has many secrets and deep thoughts like that, Ji Gu-bong appears. He becomes a great comfort to her. However, as she tries to deal with Ji Gu-bong with a quiet and blunt personality, the timid Wee Sung-eun gets hardship. Since they are not close to each other, ‘Wee Sung-eun’ reacts sensitively to ‘Ji Gu-bong’ with the fear of making him hurt due to her small mistake.
In <30 Minutes’ Walk>, We Sung-eun is shown to be extraordinarily cautious in dealing with friends. The reason why We Sung-eun does so is because of her trauma to their past friends. Since ‘We Sung-eun’ went bad with a close friend who used to go to an art academy together, she has always been careful in making friends or dealing with others.
The two friends who have been with ‘We Sung-eun’, who have been hurt by friends, are ‘So-yul’ and ‘Hyun-joon’. With them, ‘We Sung-eun’ has met new friends again, and they are very good friends who protect her from the friends who have been bad to We Sung-eun in the past. Even though they have the same birth date and have been grown together ever since we were young, as there is a saying, ‘there is no just friends between male and female’, ‘Hyun-joon’ secretly falls in love with ‘So-yul’. There will also be a lot of story developed about how ‘Hyun-joon’, who realizes his mind and is embarrassed, will treat ‘So-yul’ in the future.
‘Wee Sung-eun’, ‘Ji Gu-bong’, ‘Hyun-joon’ and ‘So-yul’ become as close as any teenage children, go out to play during the vacation and comfort each other. Through these behaviors, deeper and calm feelings are delivered even though this is a romance. Suddenly, I felt like I missed my friends in school days.
Even though <30 Minutes’ Walk> is a romance webtoon, it rather makes me think ‘I wish this exciting, cute time to get to know each other keep goes on…’ instead of making me wish 'these two main characters’ go out...’ From the first awkward part to the one they get along with each other, the story makes me smile. In particular, the slow-moving process is not too fast or too slow, which makes me think it's a webtoon that makes you feel a sense of healing.
A little unusual about <30 Minutes’ Walk> is that other webtoons appear in this webtoon. There is a webtoon called 'Wolf-Sam and Chick' appears in the webtoon and it is Wee Sung-eun’s favorite webtoon. It makes you feel fresh through Ji Gu-bong or in the part where the author intends to deliver his thoughts to readers via characters.
