Vigilante, Justified Punishment

* VIGILANTE: a member of a vigilance committee. They are formed on a voluntary basis when the public power alone does not solve the crime, riots, or war, and it can't function properly to maintain order in society.
When you hear the news these days, your anger rises ever so often. Crooks who got a slap on the wrist even though they have destroyed someone else's life. When we witness crooks like them, we start to wonder in anger what this country stands for and why the law gets applied in such way. We even begin to hope that some party other than the judiciary to crack down on such criminals.
Vigilante is a title that represents the sentiments of the common citizens. When the protagonist Ji-Yong Kim was young, his mother loses her life after getting beaten up by a thug as he picked on her for a trivial reason. The thug who killed Ji-Yong's mother only gets sentenced for three years and a half because the court deemed that he was deeply regretting his crimes and reflecting on himself despite what he has done. However, even after he gets released from prison, he doesn't change for a bit and still violates people whom he isn't fond of. Ji-Yong gets mad such behavior of the thug and hits him to death. Consequently, he starts to believe that it is his duty to take care of those who got away from their crimes through legal loopholes.
Thereby, while Ji-Yong stays as a reputable student of police academy on the weekdays, from Friday night until the weekends when he is allowed to get out of the college, he gets on with his 'work'.Though such background is interesting by itself, a reporter who connects the dots between the series of Ji-Yong's work to realize that 'someone is carrying out justice out there' appears in the story. The reporter names him as Vigilante and exposes the profile of a sex offender who has gained public resentment to lure him out for coverage.
As the sex offender whose profile has now been revealed tries to escape, the three parties of the Vigilante Ji-Yong, the reporter and the police also get involved. Ji Yong, who catches the sex criminal before the police, makes him write a letter of apology in his blood to declare his arrival to the world. The police soon regard Vigilante as a murderer and proceeds with the investigation, whereas the reporter presses on to secure the execution footage of Vigilante.
The title Vigilante is earning great popularity due to its bold action scenes and sharp social satire. In recent episodes, as the protagonist Vigilante sets a new target, the story enters it's new phase. We look forward to it's future development to watch how the three-way battle will progress and see if Vigilante will be able to keep his hidden identity until the end.
