Didn’t Inside Out copy this webtoon?: Yumi’s Cells
The Webtoon Yumi’s Cells is about Yumi’s Cells as the title says. It tells the story by personification of the brain cells which are responsible for Yumi’s emotion, impulse, and physical activities, showing the situation in Yumi’s brain. Basically, it is consisted of what happens inside Yumi’s brain and a love story in the reality, and the main story is the reaction to the reality inside the brain.
When you read the webtoon for the first time, the movie Inside Out will come in to your mind. In Yumi’s Cells, like the movie, the living cells decide what to do in the reality. A small difference between them is, the movie personified feelings into 5 categories and Yumi’s Cells personifies everything from the abstract reason, emotion, and to things related to trivial activities. Once, it was a topic to have a similar setting with Inside Out. Some people raised a question that Inside Out might be a copy of Yumi’s Cells, but it was laughed away.
The author well depicts petty feelings a person can feel in certain situations. Recently, it’s mainly on female friends of a boyfriend and coworkers of a girlfriend. It earned much empathy from many readers, as it realistically depicted conflicts or situations caused by female friends or coworkers. The webtoon is not too heavy or not too light, so can be read in an easy manner.
In addition, by the author’s statement, the ending will written as a typical one, which a couple gets bored, breaks up, and meets a new love.
In this emotionless society, this webtoon makes the readers look back their feelings…
