Sunshine is bright, and sand glitters. It’s undeniably summer. Summer is unwelcomed by many, and they won’t be sleeping very well. What do we need to escape from the tiresome heat? One of the genres prosper in summer is horror - namely, horror movies. But many also hate to watch horror movies for the obvious pattern of them or intentionally horribly distorted appearance of ghosts. What I recommend for those people is thriller webtoons which will make your brain fully activated. They are extremely realistic, and because of that they’re more horrifying, so they will definitely make you forget about the heat.

 

1. Delicious / Minshow / Lezhin Comics

There’s a man. And there’s a woman. He is special. Shin Chaekyung, he’s a cook specialized in vegan cuisine. She exists at anywhere. Hong Rena, she’s a prostitute with a tremendous debt. Maybe their relationship is, just for living in the same apartment building by accident, living in each other’s next door by accident, and running into each other in the corridor by accident. All of them would be an obvious cliché like an accident. They build up feelings together. One of them gets healed, and one of them opens the mind. Nevertheless, their story looks like a dark and foggy development rather than an ordinary romance. 

Many things are hidden in their story. And bloody smell does not go away in their story. Maybe that’s the reason why their relationship is not vivid read but more like dark red. Shin Chaekyung, who deceives others and commits murder for his pleasure, and Hong Rena, who collapses for losing people near her little by little. No one knows where the relationship will go and how it will end.

 

2. No Country for Zombies. / Sandman / Line Webtoon

At the beginning, when you see its drawing, you may think ‘how come this drawing is this crude?’ This webtoon, not even keeping body proportion or basic composition, is a hidden jewel to be shed new light. It’s often said: there may be one never read it, but there can’t be one read it only once. 

In the world full of zombies, there are humans. But no matter how much the virus is spread, the world is not divided right into black and white: there are many gray existences. Each human’s selfishness and truth inside the world make us feel something more chilling than most of zombie movies. 

 

3. Organ Loan / GAR2 / Daum

A head of a hospital is killed. At that time, no one knew he is dead with countless secrets. The truth was unimaginable. He borrowed organs from those who needed money and paid them. Their story, showing very clear what is being poor for a person and how the greed from that can be extreme, is strangely realistic and it horrifies the readers.

Their story might be from the reality. Inside the story, the one who knew the truth is killed and people related to him starts to be entangled. In their story, who is the real killer? Why did he hide the truth? In the deeply entangled story, we stop to breath and click the next episode.
