I see your money: current and future assets in a glance

When you find the work you’re reading is actually different from what you expected, it won’t be pleasant, but if the work is amusing enough from where you didn’t expected, it would be turn out as a pleasant twist. I discover such kind of works time to time, and I see your money is one of them.

At first, I started reading it as it has a good idea. The protagonist, Sungchoon can read current and future assets, like in Death Note the one who traded with Shinigami can read the real name and the remaining life. The future assets in here seems like the lifetime asset. In fact, the asset is concept of stock which is fixed at a specific point of time, unlike income, thus, actually ‘future assets’ don’t make much sense. But it’s not important; let it slide.

The ability of asset measurement (?) can be used in various ways. The easiest one is finding a future sponsor (?), but other than that, it can be used in many ways. For example, when the owner tries to buy specific stocks, the result is reflected to the figures; it’s the dream of stock investors. Or, the owner may forecast a disaster when the future assets suddenly decrease. (If the owner is going to be severely injured, the assets will decrease as much as medical expenses.)

Sungchoon, a part-timer, has a strong hope to change his born class, and he discovers Jihyang in the street by accident. The amount above her head was astronomical. Being fierce, Sungchoon grabs her arms and successfully asks her out. One interesting thing is, Jihyang has the same ability Sungchoon has. Furthermore, she’s a scion of chaebol family.

You’re now feeling it has unique material, aren’t you? Sungchoon, a penniless middle school graduate who sees current and future assets, and Jihyang, a chaebol scion who has same ability with Sungchoon and fed up with people who judges her with her money. Furthermore, many sorts of people gather near her, as it has always been like this at a place of money and pretty women, and among them, there are people closely related to Sungchoon, too.

However, apart from all these, this webtoon I See Your Money has its own charm. It’s a love story, clean and small. Both Sungchoon and Jihyang are quite nice people in terms of personality. Jihyang is different from the chaebol scions commonly appears on popular media. Rather, because she’s a chaebol scion, she’s hungry for exchange of human feelings.

Actually, this layout is not very uncommon. A meeting of a chaebol scion fed up with material things and a commoner. Usually their genders are opposite, though. But in I See Your Money, it provides persuasiveness to the meeting with the special ability, and it maintains its genre as a differentiated Cinderella-style (?) romance. As Sungchoon and Jihyang sees together, they experience a strange phenomenon for the first time: their future assets converge into infinity.

What leads the story with this unique material is quite pure and clean romance. It’s not too much nor too less. Not all chaebol scion girls would have a spoiled personality nor would be a master of love relationships. Except for their social gap and their ability they’re hiding to each other, the romance of two makes the readers pleasant. It also makes the readers to expect the future development of the story. As we all know, a love story of a nice couple has always been popular for anyone, anywhere.
