<The Rabbit Hole>: a whole story intended to be a prop

‘Hee-Yeon’, who turned 26 this year, works as a housemaid. At the time the story begins, she happens to get a new job. She is employed as a new maid of a large mansion where a family of three lives in: a father, a daughter, and a son. Hee-Yeon has an attractive appearance and body, as maids in this kind of webtoon usually do. Her attitude on sex is very liberal, if I don’t mention her motive.

As Hee-Yeon is an owner of unusual personality and profile, the family is unusually complicated as well. Mother of the family is a children’s story writer who is the source of the family’s economically rich life, but she’s staying at a hospital, suffering from a chronic, terminal illness. Her husband or her children don’t seem to long for her, though.

Hee-Yeon, who is very attractive as a female as I mentioned above, as soon as she comes, seduces the landlord ‘Gun-Tae’ and have sex with him. Not long after that, the relationship (in varying senses) of Hee-Yeon expands to all three members of the complicated family in the mansion. It is too obvious to call it a spoiler that Hee-Yeon had an ulterior motive to come to the mansion.

I don’t have much to say about the ‘story’. It is very simple, clear and neat. To the extent of that if I mention even a little part of it, it would be a spoiler for the ending. It’s not very unconventional, fresh, or extremely immoral. And I don’t think it’s a shortcoming. As the story is not impressive, the length is short and it does not consume the reader’s time and energy. The completeness of inside of the story is just good. If I may put it this way, they are neither pros nor cons of ‘The Rabbit Hole’: they’re just characteristics of it.

Other than them, I want to pay attention to the outside of the story. Specifically, to the character ‘Nam Hee-Yeon’. It won’t be an overstatement if I say all the things the work showed during its 20 episodes were the props to make Hee-Yeon to stand out. She is such an attractive and interesting character. The drawing is good, I admit, but more than that, I liked her clean and serene mental world. A quiet femme fatale, so to speak. Like the story itself, she’s not a character with an outstanding originality, but her character is woven well without a contradiction and stands out with its own personality. After a while this story ended, a 9 episodes long spin-off covers her past, and it seems the author’s idea on the intention of this webtoon is same as I anticipated.

Where the work is completed flawlessly, the review on it should be the same, too; but I’d like to add one more thing: I’d like to read another story where Hee-Yeon appears. No matter which genre that would be, it must be good.
