SUMMARY

We say we don’t believe in ghosts but we still get scared whenever we hear something unusual from a distance or when we see ourselves in the mirror in the dark. Are ghosts really…real? In the case of this webtoon, they are. Ghosts exist. Knowing ghosts exist is one thing but them chasing you to eat you is another. This is a romance story, I swear.
Ghost Wife, a webtoon created by Se Jeong, brought nothing but excitement to me since there are different ghost stories introduced. Somewhat like a package with different items inside. Ghosts held back in this world because of sadness, loneliness, longing, revenge, and many more. The content of the story was beyond interesting which handed my mind explosives multiple times.
Damon is a ghost of great power and a mountain king. Being powerful as he is, he is capable of vanquishing other ghosts that gets in his way but that was old news. Now, he vanquishes ghosts that gets in his fiance’s way. I don’t know about everyone else but I loved his creepy smile in the beginning. I loved it because it was creepy. That’s it.
Liz, a human whose appearance screams ordinary but it all changed when she saw Damon. I keep forgetting her name because she was constantly called by Damon by a different ‘sweet?’ name. Either way, it stuck so I had a hard time recalling it and ended up relying on backreading.
This was totally worth the read. Although the art is a bit unstable because of the figures. The figures were round. Just like how a clay sculpture is moulded and has a round appearance, so does the characters in this webtoon. Aside from that, there was one part in an episode where one of the male characters appear to have breasts. I don’t think it was that. I just think it was misdrawn. The choice of palette was wide and strong and had bold colors. The story was sweet and I like how different characters keep on being added as introductions to new stories and the ghosts were very well thought of and were so original. I hope to see the day that this will be made into a tv series or movie. It would be something to look forward to. Although CGIs, prosthetics, and animations will probably cost so much.
There was not one character that I didn’t like. May it be an antagonist or a protagonist, they were all given great roles that it was hard to hate them. The ghosts were disgusting but it was one of the reasons why I loved the story. If there is one thing, I didn’t like how the son was treated. Damon was able to learn emotions that even led him to shed tears. He should’ve treated his son better. His son felt so insignificant there. But he redeemed himself at the end of the webtoon.
The translations though. Different websites have different translations and I ended up with the bad one. It wasn’t the case for all the episodes so it was okay to continue reading. It was just hard to understand some parts since some of the sentences were messed up. Aside from that, I feel like such a sinner for judging the webtoon by its cover image. May the ghost wife creators and supporters forgive me but I was glad that I finished it. There wasn’t much time to brace myself for the heartbreak though. I hated seeing the male lead so disheartened. It was difficult to bear.
Overall, it was amazing. I was able to learn some Korean information as well. Most of the webtoon, I believe, was mostly original. I mean the characters, the powers, the origins, and other explanations of the creatures seemed original to me. It was great. Very. I have yet to look for other webtoons by the author and am hoping I’ll be able to find more.
